Introduction
Hanson Heidelberg Cement Group engaged Adelaide Structural Engineers (ASE) to conduct an engineering investigation at the sand quarry located at 8 Ross Road, Golden Grove, SA. This comprehensive report outlines the issues identified during the inspection and provides detailed recommendations related to the glass plant located on the site.
The inspection was carried out by ASE’s structural engineering team, who conducted a visual assessment to identify issues and provide a clear set of recommendations to the client.
Project Description
The existing Hanson plant at Golden Grove SA, exhibited significant corrosion to the structural elements of the materials handling system, raising concerns regarding the structural integrity of the plant for its continued operation.
Challenge
The compromise to the structural integrity of the processing plant provided a safety risk to the continued use of the plant for the sand processing. A thorough investigation of the issue was required, providing clear understanding of the structural integrity issue and a course of action to address the issue.
Solution
Adelaide Structural Engineers conducted a detailed inspection of the facility for the structural audit to identify the damage to the plant structures, extent of the damage and provide remedial measures. The structural audit was completed utilising a risk based approach by considering the likelihood and consequence and impact of the structural failure. This provided a clear roadmap to the client to adequately plan for the repairs considering the plant operation and maintenance strategies without causing much disruption to the production.
Conclusion
The engineering inspection of the glass plant at 8 Ross Road has identified several structural and corrosion-related issues that require immediate attention. Implementing the recommended measures will not only address these concerns but also enhance the overall safety and longevity of the facility.
